Assistant Registrar, Advising & Enrolment Services
Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Advising & Enrolment Services, the Assistant Registrar, Advising & Enrolment Services is a managerial role responsible for overseeing the operations of the Advising and Enrolment Services Office in either the Brampton or Sault Ste Marie campuses. Administrative Assistant to the Office of Student Success and Wellbeing
The Student Success and Wellbeing office models a welcoming, inclusive safe space to both learn and work, and has a strong commitment to Algoma University’s Special Mission, Indigenization, Decolonization, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and the Seven Grandfather Teachings, all of which guide the work and interactions of the office. Reporting to the Director of Student Success and Wellbeing, the Administrative Assistant provides services that support the day-to-day operational administrative needs of the Office of the Director and subsequent departments. The incumbent ensures the needs of the office and employees are met in a timely manner. This position requires high confidentiality, good judgment, exceptional attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work under challenging time constraints and conditions due to various priorities within Student Success and Wellbeing. Administrative Assistant, Finance & Planning
Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Finance and Planning, the Administrative Assistant is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and confidentiality of the department, with a focus on service excellence in support of the department’s strategic activities related to financial services and institutional planning. The incumbent will work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment providing support for departmental activities while supporting project coordination of any relevant projects within the Finance and Planning portfolio. This position requires initiative, professionalism, attention to detail, discretion, and problem-solving skills to ensure excellence in customer/ student services and administrative duties.

Learning Management System (LMS) Support Agent
The Learning Management System (LMS) Support Agent is responsible for the day-to-day support of Moodle and Brightspace. Using a ticket system, the LMS Support Agent will be primarily responsible for providing frontline LMS support to faculty. They will troubleshoot and resolve issues related to use of both LMSs and escalate issues to other support avenues as needed. The LMS Support Agent will also contribute to training faculty on the use of the LMSs. Additionally, they will work with the CTL Team to prepare the LMS environments for the start of each term and contribute to discussions on how to improve LMS faculty support. As needed, the LMS Support Agent will provide support to virtual classes and instructors teaching using the on-site virtual classroom.

*Distance Education / Asynchronous Instruction: The course materials – lectures, videos, assignments, assessments, discussion boards, etc. – are prepared prior to course delivery, and which students complete on a more flexible schedule (asynchronous). Critical Thinking/Logic Question Developer
The Dept. of Biology and Environmental Science (Algoma University, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada) is seeking applicants to a research assistant position starting March 25, 2024 or as soon as possible, and finishing after the 169 hours are worked, or at the latest by May 30, 2024. The successful candidate will work remotely to build a bank of critical thinking questions that require students to identify good and bad reasoning/logic. Questions will be part of a game used to help students build critical thinking skills, where their daily scores are tallied and there is a leaderboard so students can see who the top performers are.

Postdoctoral Fellowship – Plant and Soil Ecology
Algoma University’s Plant & Soil Ecology lab is currently seeking an exceptional postdoctoral fellow at the Sault Ste. Marie campus. The research will center around an NSERC-funded project conducted in collaboration with Dr. Stephen Mayor of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. The project’s primary objective is to elucidate the impact of climate change factors on plant-soil biotic interactions following wildfires, with direct implications for boreal forest community assembly, key soil processes, ecological succession, and tree migration. Special emphasis will be placed on mycorrhizal symbioses, including both ecto- and endomycorrhizas.
The project entails replicated permanent plots situated in diverse forest types within the vicinity of Pukaskwa National Park, renowned as one of Canada’s most iconic parks. The appointed postdoc will be provided with the necessary resources to conduct field work, as well as access to state-of-the-art laboratories, greenhouses, and growth chamber facilities. Available facilities include a molecular lab equipped with second-generation sequencing instruments and a Level 2 microbiology lab.
The lab is located at the Sault Ste. Marie, ON campus in the new Biosciences & Technology Convergence Centre. The Ontario Forestry Research Institute is located within walking distance.
