International students applying from overseas may apply directly to Algoma U on our application portal or via the OUAC 105 portal. If you have any questions about the application process, please email [email protected].

May 2024 Intake

Application Deadline for Overseas International Applicants – No Approved Study Visa
If you are currently living outside of Canada and do not yet have an approved study permit, you are considered an overseas applicant. Applications will close for overseas applicants on December 11, 2023. Any application submitted after this date will be automatically deferred to the next available intake.

 

Application Deadline for “Onshore” Students
If you are currently living inside Canada with an approved Canadian study permit OR living overseas with a valid Canadian study visa or Canadian study permit, Algoma University considers you an “onshore” student. March 29th, 2024 is the last day to apply for admission.

 

Tuition Deposit Deadlines
The tuition deposit deadline for all overseas applicants is January 22, 2024. Extensions for overseas applicants will not be granted and students will be encouraged to defer to the next available intake. For information on how to defer, please review our deferral policy.

The tuition deposit deadline for all onshore applicants is April 8, 2024. Extensions for onshore applicants may be granted on a case-by-case basis as applications are reviewed.

 

September 2024 Intake

Application Deadline for Overseas International Applicants – No Approved Study Visa

Applications will close for overseas applicants on April 22, 2024. Any application submitted after this date will be automatically deferred to the next available intake.

 

Application Deadline for “Onshore” Students
If you are currently living inside Canada with an approved Canadian study permit OR living overseas with a valid Canadian study visa or Canadian study permit, Algoma University considers you an “onshore” student. August 5, 2024 is the last day to apply for admission.

 

Tuition Deposit Deadlines
The tuition deposit deadline for overseas applicants is June 3, 2024. Extensions for Overseas International Applicants will not be granted and students will be encouraged to defer to the next available intake. For information on how to defer, please review our deferral policy.

The tuition deposit deadline for all onshore applicants is August 14, 2024. Extensions for onshore applicants may be granted on a case-by-case basis as applications are reviewed.

  • Complete the Algoma U application
  • Pay your non-refundable $125.00 CDN application fee on the application portal. For other payment options, click here.
  • Submit copies of all transcripts including secondary school transcripts, secondary school diplomas, post-secondary school transcripts, and diplomas/degrees, if applicable. All applicants must upload their documents on the AU Application Portal.*
  • Send proof of English Language Proficiency (if applicable). For accepted test results, please click here.
  • Gap Letter/Gap Explanation – If you have been out of school for more than two years, you must provide documentation detailing your recent professional history. This documentation can include a resume, letters of employment, additional undeclared academic history, and/or a personal letter of explanation.
  • Copy of Study Permit/Visa. If you have completed any studies overseas (including Canada), please include a copy of your study permit or visa.

*If you are an OUAC 101 or 105 applicants, you will not have access to the AU Application Portal. Digital copies may be emailed to [email protected].

How to Access Your Offer Package on ApplyProof

Once you have been accepted to Algoma University, you will receive a congratulatory email from [email protected], with instructions on accessing your Offer Package. If you have applied through an agent, they will receive the email and provide you with the link or the document.

Step 1: Click on the ApplyProof Link

Upon receipt of your congratulatory email message, a unique link will be shared with you to access your official document electronically.

Step 2: Insert Passcode to Retrieve the Document

Your Passcode and instructions for entering the passcode will be included in the original email.

What Does an ‘ApplyProofed’ Document Look Like?

An ApplyProof page is added to the end of your document; you can use the code and passcode to retrieve your document from www.applyproof.com in the future.

Please make sure the ApplyProof page is attached when you are applying for a study permit.

Frequently Asked Questions

I received my Offer Package before May 2021 and it doesn’t have the ApplyProof page attached to it. Does this mean my letter is fraudulent?

No, this does not mean your Offer Package is fraudulent. During the testing phase, Algoma University issued some Offer Packages for May and September 2021 through ApplyProof and some through our previous process. Therefore, not all letters prior for September 2021 and May 2021 were ApplyProofed. If your Offer Package is for either of these previously mentioned intakes and does not contain the ApplyProof page, email us at [email protected] and we can ApplyProof your letter for you.

 

What if the details in my digital ApplyProof letter do not match the copy I received from my agent?

If you received an Offer Package from your agent that does not match the Offer Package details provided via ApplyProof, the letter available via ApplyProof should be considered the correct version.

Campus Change Policy

Pre-Deposit

Once an offer of admission has been provided to the student, if a deposit has not yet been made, campus change requests can be considered on a case-by-case basis by the International Admissions team.

  • If you applied with the help of an education consultant or agent affiliated with Algoma University, you must make the request via the consultant or agent.
  • If you applied directly without the help of an education consultant or agent, you may email [email protected] to request a campus change.

Post-Deposit

Payment of the non-refundable deposit constitutes your acceptance of your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and secures your seat in the program at the campus listed on your LOA. Any request made to alter the campus indicated on your LOA is subject to approval from the Office of the Registrar and is based on program, campus, and intake availability, and is not guaranteed. The campus transfer policy can be found on the Office of the Registrar homepage.

 

Deferral Policy
  • Students can defer their offer of admission once to the next available intake with no formal reason required.
  • Deferrals are conditional upon program availability, campus availability, and seat availability. Deferring your offer of admission does not guarantee your seat in the preferred program, campus, or intake and may subject you to receipt of an alternate offer.
  • After the first deferral, all future deferrals require that a deposit has been made to the student’s account; students can make as many deferral requests as they need with a tuition deposit on their account. Otherwise, a new paid application will be required.
Deferral Deadlines
  • Students may request a deferral at any point before the first day of classes for their scheduled intake
  • We must receive your visa stamp or LOI (Letter of Introduction) by the following August 2nd, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. EST, to confirm your seat for the September 2023 intake:
  • You may submit them via one of the following options:
    • Option #1 – As soon as these documents are available, we ask that you upload them to this Google Form: https://forms.gle/stbXRCoU9KSmKjTv6
    • Option #2 – As soon as these documents are available, provide them to your agent/consultant so that they may submit them to the university as soon as possible.
  • If you are unable to submit a visa stamp or LOI on or before the above date, the university cannot guarantee that you will be able to register for your classes and we will not support your travel for September 2023. We will require that you defer to the next available intake for your program.
Requesting a Deferral or Cancelling a Deferral
  • If you applied with the help of an education consultant or agent affiliated with Algoma University, you must make the request via the consultant or agent.
  • If you applied directly without the help of an education consultant or agent, you may email [email protected] to request a deferral or cancel a deferral.
Cancelling a Deferral Request
  • We will no longer be cancelling deferral requests. If you choose to defer, once processed, your seat will no longer be available.

Please follow the below guidelines to ensure faster processing time.

Documents & Academic History
  • Any schools indicated in the academic history on the application will require a transcript to be submitted, unless otherwise stated, in order to assess the application. 
  • Any schools and/or transcripts not indicated in the academic history, that come to light after an offer has been issued, will not be considered for transfer credit evaluation. 
  • All documents must come with an Official English Language translation if the original documents are not in English.
File Organization
  • Rename all of your files to accurately describe their content. For example, “University of Example transcripts”; all English language test results should be named “English Language Test”.
  • Documents must be submitted in PDF format. 
  • Condense all related documents (by institution) into one PDF document. For example, all semesters of high school should be condensed into one PDF document and all documents for university should be condensed into another PDF document. This will ensure that you are able to upload all documents via the Application Portal.
What is considered an official transcript?

An official transcript is defined as a transcript that is sent directly by the issuing institution or education authority using the sending institution’s security features (e.g., secure paper, institutional seal, secure digital encryption, etc.) and has not been handled by the student in any way.

Official transcripts may be requested for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to confirmation of a student’s unconditional admission, transfer credit evaluations, scholarship assessment, or cases of suspected fraudulent documents.

Hard Copy by Mail

Digital Verification Service

If the issuing institution or education authority provides a digital verification service for your academic transcript, that Algoma University can use to verify the authenticity of your results, we can accept this as an official academic transcript.

WES Evaluation

Algoma University considers a World Education Services (WES) Evaluation as equivalent to an official transcript and a replacement for an official copy of your degree transcripts for assessment of transfer credit or advanced standing.

We do not accept paper or soft copies of WES Evaluations. Please send the final WES assessment to us via AccessWES.

Hard Copy in Person

If the issuing institution or education authority does not provide an option to verify the authenticity of your results online or does not allow you to request a new official hard copy to be mailed to the university, you may visit the International Admissions Office in person with the original official transcript to be reviewed by admissions staff. This is considered a last resort and still may not be accepted as official by the International Admissions Office.
