Education Day

About 500 Grade Five students across the Algoma District School Board (ADSB), Huron Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB), will be celebrating Education Day at Algoma University, hosted by the Anishinaabe Initiatives Division (AID). This event marks a unique co-operation between elementary school boards in the area as well as Algoma University.

As part of Ontario’s Grade Five curriculum, students are learning about Anishinaabe culture. In order to better understand Anishinaabe culture and heritage, Algoma University and the AID invites students from across the Algoma region to take part in a variety of traditional and contemporary events which fosters better understanding about Canada’s First Peoples.

Students will learn about a variety of traditional and contemporary Anishinaabe teachings and traditions such as drumming, pipe stone carving, Métis dance, fashion, and more.
