Black History Month – Community Session with Dr. Shaunasea Brown
Black people in Canada have a long history of creating knowledge and spaces for themselves in academia. You’re invited to take part in continuing this tradition via a conversation about Black experiences at Algoma University.
From the perspectives of Black women faculty and staff, Dr. Shaunasea Brown will be joined by Tia Bambury, and Jane Omollo to share their experiences as Black women in higher education. Conversations will not only underscore the challenges they face as Black women working in academia, but the stories shared will also be an opportunity to celebrate Black contributions toward student success and the cultivation of rich learning environments and spaces of work. This event also welcomes your insights and perspectives as it is uniquely curated to facilitate Black community-building at Algoma and beyond. Together, we will highlight the importance of Black spaces in academia by discussing questions such as: What makes you proud to be Black at AlgomaU? All attendees who self-identify as Black and /or of African descent are welcome.
