Black History Month: Fire Shut Up In My Bones (Special Screening)
In honour of Black History Month, the Algoma University Music Program is proud to present a special screening of Fire Shut Up In My Bones, a Terence Blanchard opera. Fire Shut Up In My Bones is the first opera composed by a Black composer who premiered at the MET – their stage production of this opera recently won a Grammy for “Best Opera Recording” at the 2023 ceremony. The story is based on the memoirs of African American journalist Charles M. Blow, detailing his coming of age as a young black boy in the Deep South.
