About the speech:
Family firms play an important role in the global economy, and topics related to their business decisions have been extensively addressed. Family involvement in finance has been studied on the basis of various theories, including the traditional agency theory, behavioural agency theory through the lenses of socio-emotional wealth, narrow-framing perspectives, and so on. In this research, a number of empirical studies on family involvement in finance will be discussed from different angles.
About the speaker:
Dr. Zhenyu Wu is the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Research Programs and Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance in the I.H. Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba. He also holds the position of the IG Wealth Management Chair in Leadership Research at the University of Manitoba. Between 2012 and 2021, he also held the position of Canada Research Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Dr. Wu holds a Ph.D. in Finance (2007), an MBA degree in Finance (2002), and a Master’s Arts degree in Economics (2001) from the University of Calgary, Canada. His research interest falls in entrepreneurial finance, entrepreneurship, family business, and corporate governance. Zhenyu serves on the Editorial Review Board of Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice and Family Business Review. He is a Subject/Associate Editor of Emerging Markets Review, European Journal of Finance, and Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money. Zhenyu has also served as a guest editor of special issues published by various scholarly journals and organized multiple international academic conferences. Over the past 14 years, Zhenyu has published more than 70 academic papers, 14 of which were published in those journals on the Financial Times-50 list. Zhenyu has also been working closely with companies listed on the NASDAQ stock market.
