Gathering and Conference
The Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA) invites you to the beautiful traditional territory of Baawating / Sault Ste. Marie for this year’s Shingwauk Gathering and Conference as we gather in the spirit of sharing, healing and learning to experience and explore “The Government Apology and the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement: Then and Now”.
Shingwauk Gathering and Conference 2018 is scheduled for August 3, 4 & 5. The event will take place on the original site of the Shingwauk Indian Residential School, which is presently the home of Algoma University and Shingwauk Kinoomage Gamig, in partnership with the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association. Participatory workshops, daily activities and films will be presented to attendees throughout the three days.
Conference Objectives:
✓ Maximize opportunities to engage with one another
✓ Educate new attendees on the impacts of the Indian Residential Schools in Canada and its legacy on Indigenous families and communities in present day
✓ Nurture the on-going healing process while strengthening existing
relationships
✓ Fostering community engagement
Through an Indigenous traditional holistic approach, participants are able to engage one another in sharing, healing and learning. This holistic approach has been the heart of past Gatherings and has given us the strength to move forward together in a good way.
