Seminar Description

For any researcher, knowing how data analysis techniques work before collecting data is profoundly an important and critical step. Changing techniques would definitely change the way data should be collected. In this seminar, I will take you through one of the popular data analysis techniques, Partial Least Squares, PLS. In fact, the PLS technique works on the basis of explaining the variance of different variables or indicators and allows hypothesis testing in an elegant way. Nevertheless, some researchers come to a critical point where they want to decide whether to apply the variance based technique PLS or its cousin, the covariance based technique, SEM, Structural Equations Modelling. In this seminar, I will talk about the differences and in which situation each one should be applied. A short demo on how to use R (an open-source language) or SmartPLS (a commercial software) to apply the PLS will be shown and discussed.
