Second Annual Science Festival coming to Sault Ste. Marie

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – April 25, 2016): The Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival – the only festival of its kind in the area – kicks off Tuesday, April 26, and runs through to April 30, 2016.  The Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival will shine the spotlight on science and research happening right here in your community. It will also spark an interest in science among children, teens and adults by offering an opportunity to celebrate science in a fun and welcoming setting for all ages.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to the organizers and participants of this year’s Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival,” said Terry Sheehan, MP Sault Ste. Marie. “The Government of Canada is proud to support innovation and improve research infrastructure so that we continue to build in-depth knowledge, develop a highly-skilled workforce, and remain internationally competitive. Getting people to participate and enjoy science at all ages is a great way to promote innovation and encourage younger generations to go into science related fields.”

“The inaugural Sault Ste. Marie Science Festival in 2015 was a huge success, and I’m pleased that it’s returning for a second year,” said David Orazietti, MPP Sault Ste. Marie. “The week-long festival aims to spark a child’s interest in science from a young age, and is extremely successful in doing so through family events and hands-on activities. By highlighting the scientific initiatives taking place here in the Sault, youth are encouraged to consider the possibilities of a science-related career.”

“The City of Sault Ste. Marie is excited that the Science Festival is returning for a second year in 2016,” said Christian Provenzano, Mayor, Sault Ste. Marie. “I’d like to thank the many community partners who have collaborated to make the event happen. I’m looking forward to the festival and to learning more about the scientific research, initiatives and technologies that local scientists are working on in our community.”

The week long event highlights science and technology through several activities including:

  • Science For Seniors – April 26 and 27, 2016
