Academic Integrity at Algoma University

Academic integrity is a foundational value at Algoma University, essential to maintaining the credibility and reputation of our academic programs and credentials.

The Disciplinary Regulations on Academic Integrity establish the framework for addressing all academic integrity related matters at the university. These regulations guide how violations are identified, reported, and resolved, and ensure that academic standards are upheld consistently, transparently and fairly.

The current policy was approved by the Algoma University Senate on January 10, 2025 and came into force the same day.

Core Values and Ethical Commitments

At Algoma University, academic integrity is grounded in six core values recognised by the International Center for Academic Integrity: honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage. These values are deeply aligned with the Seven Grandfather Teachings of the Anishinaabe people—honesty, wisdom, respect, bravery, truth, humility, and love.

Together, these principles are more than just ideals; they shape how we approach our academic work, how we treat one another, and how we make decisions. They call us to act ethically, honestly, and responsibly in every aspect of university life.

Algoma’s academic integrity framework reflects a shared commitment to learning with honour, and treating each other with fairness and respect.

Purpose of the Policy

The primary objective of the academic integrity policy is to protect the integrity and value of the academic credentials issued by Algoma University—such as degrees and certificates—by ensuring they reflect the genuine knowledge, skills, and competencies of their recipients.
