Work on Campus
Algoma University is pleased to offer programs that enable students to work full-time during the summer, and part-time throughout the academic year while completing their studies.
There are positions available for all students to apply to as well as positions available for eligible domestic students with a financial need.
Regular Fall/Winter Part-Time Jobs
Regular positions available for all students are posted on the Student Portal within the Resources section. Part-Time positions are available on or near campus in a variety of areas and are available to all Algoma University students.

Work Study Program
The Work Study program provides part-time employment opportunities on or near campus to eligible Algoma University students. This program is funded through the Financial Aid Office and is designed to assist eligible domestic students with an unmet financial need. An application is required and can be submitted through the Student Portal within the Financial section. Jobs start in September and go through until April.

Summer Employment Program
The Summer Employment Program (SEP) provides full-time employment opportunities on or near campus to eligible Algoma University students. This program is funded through the Financial Aid Office and is designed to assist returning eligible domestic students with an unmet financial need for their upcoming academic year. An application is required and can be submitted through the Student Portal within the Financial section. Jobs start in May and end in August.

Information for International Students on Work on Campus
If you are an international student and you want to work on campus, there are certain regulations you’ll need to follow. Take a look at your options below.
If you are an international student studying in Canada, you must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a work permit under the Off –Campus Work Permit (OCWP). Requirements are subject to change. Please visit www.cic.gc.ca for up-to-date information:
- You must have a valid study permit;
- You must have studied full-time at Algoma University for at least six months of the last 12 months before you apply;
- You must maintain satisfactory academic standing (as defined by Algoma University); and
- You must be enrolled in an academic program of study (not including SPELL).
Students who hold a valid OCWP are permitted to work off-campus for a maximum of 20 hours a week during study periods and 40 hours a week during non-study periods.
Interested in working after graduation? Students who have attended and graduated from academic programs with a two-year duration or longer are eligible for a post-graduate work permit for up to three years. For more detailed information on this work permit, please contact the International Student Advisor.
International students may choose to participate in our Co-operative Education Program (more commonly known as Co-op). The Co-op Program is a certificate program that allows students to work in paid full-time positions that are relevant to their field of study. Co-op requirements are as follows:
- Successfully complete COOP 0101 (career skills course);
- Complete 30 credits at Algoma University;
- Maintain a 70% or higher average (includes all course attempts);
- Register as a full-time student in two of the past four terms; and
- Apply for a Co-op Work Permit.
