About Us

CityStudio is a proven model of experiential learning and civic engagement focused on developing tomorrow’s leaders by bringing municipal government to the classroom. CityStudio Sault Ste. Marie combines the experience of our communities, the expertise of our municipal professionals, and the acumen and enthusiasm of our students to create solutions to local challenges. With these projects, students will have the opportunity to research and design solutions, enhancing your resume with research, analysis and consultation skills.

CityStudio opportunities run each semester and there are a variety of ways to get involved.

Projects from the City are brought into the classroom as an assignment or a project during the term. Example: A marketing class is tasked with the job to create a new branding strategy for downtown Sault Ste. Marie to attract more businesses to diversify the business mix.

Experience is cohort based, project focused and multi- credit. This course is based in the community with interdisciplinary students. Students will work together on one or more community challenges with individual and collective responsibility.

Students who are looking to fulfill their practicum requirements as per their degree, can partner with CityStudio on a specialized project with the City of Sault Ste. Marie.
