In today’s global work world, accountants are in high demand. With the economy bouncing back from the recent economic downturn, Service Canada has forecasted accounting careers to be on the rise to mimic the economic upswing. Here at Algoma U, our students have a fundamental understanding of accounting concepts and principles needed to succeed in life and in their future career. Students will gain a strong understanding of managerial accounting, income taxation, finance, auditing, and analysis of general and management practices. Students will develop the intellectual ability to effectively organize, manage and lead teams, analyze and solve complex problems while leveraging new innovations and creative solutions, conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner, and develop and execute business decisions using effective communication techniques.
Another unique aspect of our program is that it provides students with a pathway into an array of accounting career opportunities, including the opportunity to pursue the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation after graduation. It also helps prepare students to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), and courses are recognized by the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada (AFOA), which can prepare students to become Certified Aboriginal Financial Managers (CAFM certification). A degree in accounting, complemented with a professional designation, makes graduates of increased value to employers, and enhances their employment prospects after graduation.

Dr. Eva Huang
Assistant Professor
As a globally minded researcher and educator, I have pursued an international academic and professional journey spanning China, England, Australia, and Canada. I completed my undergraduate education in China, earned MBA and MA degrees in England, and obtained my PhD in Australia. My professional experience includes roles as HR Manager, Assistant Health and Safety Manager, Research Associate, and HR Consultant, which have given me a well-rounded perspective on the practice and scholarship of human resource management.
I am dedicated to promoting evidence-based people management solutions that help professionals and organizations strengthen leadership capacity, foster employee well-being, and achieve sustainable organizational success. With a passion for teaching and research, I thrive in diverse cultural and institutional settings.
In the emerging era of artificial intelligence, I also emphasize the critical role of HRM in ensuring that technology enhances rather than diminishes human potential. This includes guiding organizations to adopt AI responsibly in areas such as recruitment, performance management, and employee development, while upholding ethics, fairness, and inclusivity. By integrating human-centered values with technological advancement, I seek to prepare future leaders to navigate the challenges and opportunities of work in the digital age.
