Algoma U Artists Show Off Work in Year-End Exhibition

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – April 16, 2018): Beginning on April 18th, graduating thesis students from Algoma University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program will be displaying their work in their year-end exhibition at 180 Projects at 180 Gore Street. The exhibition runs until April 25th with the opening reception happening on April 20th at 7:00pm.

Graduating students, whose work will be on display, include Julia Downie, Q Qilegeer, Isabelle Michaud, Barb Ramsay, and Graciena Samosir. The students’ work will showcase a variety of mediums and feature an array of topics, spanning family and the homestead, trauma and transcendence, the move from Colombia to Canada, and more.

“The 2018 final exhibition showcases one of the most diverse groups of students we’ve had the opportunity to teach,” said Professor Tom O’Flanagan of the visual arts program. “That diversity is reflected in the extraordinary range of works. We are proud of the manner in which our program enables students to discover their own voices.”

The senior exhibit prepares students for professional practices, such as researching and writing an artist’s statement, curating an exhibition, and delivering an oral defense of his or her work. Plus, the exhibition allows students to gain recognition for their work, and display their refined, mature, and sophisticated artistry in the public sector.

The senior exhibition is open to the public and free of charge.
