(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – October 18, 2016): Algoma University celebrated the graduation of 31 students from its Brampton extension this past weekend at the Fall 2016 Convocation Ceremony, held at the Brampton Golf Club.
University Chancellor Shirley Horn conferred degrees on students who successfully completed the requirements of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program. Since the extension’s first Fall Convocation ceremony in 2012, approximately 110 students have completed degrees at Algoma U at Brampton.
“Our programs in Brampton and Timmins have provided university opportunities for students in their own backyards, without the additional expense of relocating to go to school,” said Dr. Craig Chamberlin, President and Vice Chancellor of Algoma University. “Although we welcome these students to attend our larger convocation ceremony in Sault Ste. Marie, we recognize that this is an occasion students want to celebrate with family and friends. Having the convocation ceremony in Brampton makes this a special day for our students and demonstrates our strong affiliation for the Brampton community.”
Arezo Mansury was the recipient of the Convocation Award, presented to the graduating student with the highest overall academic achievement.
John Cutruzzola, a local builder and real estate developer, was this year’s Honourary Speaker, delivering an inspiring convocation address to all in attendance.
During the past academic year, 138 students studied on a full- or part-time basis at Algoma U at Brampton, focussing on the areas accounting, human resources management, and marketing.
