(BRAMPTON, ON- June 18, 2022): Today, for the first time since 2019, Algoma University celebrated the academic achievements of graduating students from its growing Brampton campus during a traditional in-person convocation ceremony held at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. Mario Turco, Chancellor of the University, conferred degrees and certificates on 234 students over the course of two ceremonies.
“On behalf of Algoma University, we are thrilled to be back in person celebrating the class of 2022 from our Brampton campus!”, shared President and Vice-Chancellor Asima Vezina. “Today marks a new beginning and a time to honour the largest graduating class in the history of Algoma U. This is a group of students that spent two years navigating their educational journey through a pandemic. We are here today to celebrate their accomplishments, their resilience, and their current success. We look forward to hearing the future stories and triumphs of the newest members of the Algoma University Alumni family from our campuses in Brampton, Timmins, and Sault Ste. Marie!”
Located in the heart of downtown Brampton, the Algoma University campus currently offers programming in the areas of business, computer science, and psychology. Algoma’s student body has grown from approximately 100 full-time equivalent (FTE) students in 2018 to over 1600 FTE during the past academic year, including an ever-increasing number of students from the Peel Region. In order to accommodate this current and future growth, the university has considerably expanded its campus footprint over the past two years. New state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and student support facilities were available for student use when the University reopened its doors for in-person learning earlier this year. Additional facilities, including a new student success centre and lecture hall, are slated to open in Fall 2022.
