Timmins community celebrates fall graduates at the Porcupine Dante Club
Algoma University celebrated its fall class of 2024 in a memorable convocation ceremony at the Porcupine Dante Club. The event marked a significant milestone for graduates as they embark on their next chapters, equipped with the skills and knowledge gained during their time at Algoma University.
The ceremony featured heartfelt performances, including a traditional song by Nathan Naveau, creating a meaningful atmosphere for the graduates and their families. Inspiring remarks from Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) graduate Rachel Routhier captured the spirit of perseverance, growth, and community that defines Algoma’s Timmins campus.
“As we celebrate the academic achievements of our 2024 graduates, we also reflect on the strength of character this class exudes and their commitment to making a difference in their communities,” said President and Vice-chancellor Asima Vezina, PhD. “I am incredibly proud of what these graduates have accomplished, many with families and work commitments on top of their studies, they have shown incredible perseverance and resilience, and we are excited for the positive impact they will have going forward as Algoma alumni.”
The convocation highlighted Algoma University’s strong connection to the Timmins community and its ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education tailored to the region’s unique needs.
A campus social was held the night before the convocation to bring together graduates, alumni, staff, faculty, and students in a celebratory atmosphere. This gathering provided an opportunity to reflect on shared accomplishments and strengthen the bonds within the Algoma community in Timmins.
Event photos and a full ceremony recording will be available on the University’s social media platforms and at gallery.algomau.ca.
