(BRAMPTON, SAULT STE. MARIE, TIMMINS, ON – November 20, 2025): Algoma University is seeking applications from engaged and skilled individuals to serve on its volunteer Board of Governors with proximity and/or connection to any of Algoma University’s three campus locations: Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton, and Timmins.
Algoma University’s tri-campus communities are deeply connected to the regions they serve. The Sault Ste. Marie campus is located on the historic site of the former Shingwauk Indian Residential School, which grounds the University in a profound responsibility to advance truth, healing, and cross-cultural understanding.
Algoma University’s Brampton campus is in the heart of historic downtown Brampton, with state-of-the-art classrooms and a student experience that is integrated with urban Brampton life. Algoma U at Northern College in Timmins provides diploma-to-degree and university transfer students with the opportunity to accelerate their career path and transform their college foundation into a university degree.
Guided by its Special Mission to be a teaching-focused institution responsive to the needs of Northern Ontario and to foster meaningful learning between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities, Algoma University is committed to supporting students, partners, and communities across all three campuses. Board members play a critical role in advancing this mission and ensuring the University’s long-term sustainability.
“This is a unique opportunity for leaders to give back, contribute their skills, and support education in our campus communities and beyond,” said Dr. Sonja Kosuta, Chair of the Board’s Governance Committee.
The Board is seeking candidates with knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas: accounting, finance, cybersecurity, governance, legal, and/or risk management. The Board will be prioritizing highly skilled candidates who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit in accordance with University policy. Meetings are held in a hybrid format, hosted primarily from the Sault Ste. Marie campus.
Applicants are encouraged to apply by December 21, 2025 (or until positions are filled). To learn more and apply, visit algomau.ca/governance/board-of-governors/externalapplicants.
