(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON: Wednesday, April 19, 2017): Algoma University is pleased to announce that the Community Economic and Social Development (CESD) Spring Institute will be returning to campus from Monday, June 11th to Friday, June 16th.
The CESD Spring Institute provides students and community workers with university-level education and professional development in CESD with a special focus on northern, rural, and First Nation/Indigenous communities. Credits earned in the CESD Spring Institute can be applied toward an Algoma U degree and can prepare students and professionals for certification by the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (CANDO) and the Economic Developers’ Association of Canada (EDAC).
In addition to the annual CESD Spring Institute held on the campus of Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma U is offering courses at its extensions in Brampton and Timmins. The Brampton CESD Institute will be held from June 4th to the 9th while the Timmins CESD Institute will be held from June 18th to the 23rd.
Courses being offered include:
- CESD1006: An Introduction to Community Economic and Social Development (Sault Ste. Marie and Brampton)
- CESD3906/4906: Indigenous and Land Rights Movements in the Americas: Development and Conflict, Peace and Reconciliation (Sault Ste. Marie)
- CESD3906/4906: Community Development Approaches to Consultation and Consent in Indigenous Communities: Northern Ontario and Around the Globe (Timmins)
On-campus housing is available to those interested in participating in the CESD Spring Institute being held in Sault Ste. Marie.
