Liz Neish (BA Political Science / Law & Justice ‘22) is currently thriving in dual roles: as the Office Manager for Open Minds Core Services Centre and as a team member at Paint and Decor Concepts, where she also shares her creative side by teaching pottery classes. Her career is a dynamic blend of organizational leadership and artistic expression, showcasing her versatility and passion for helping others.
During her time at Algoma University, Liz was a dedicated member of the Law and Politics Student Society, where her leadership journey progressed from general member to Vice President, and ultimately to President in her final year. She played an active role in a variety of events, including Model United Nations and debates, honing her skills in diplomacy and public speaking.
Since graduating, Liz has become one of Algoma University’s top volunteers in the Alumni Ambassador Program, consistently going above and beyond to engage with the alumni network and support current students. Her commitment and enthusiasm for the program have made her a standout leader and a vital connection point between alumni and the university community.
Liz’s decision to return to Algoma U as a volunteer was driven by a desire to forge meaningful connections with other alumni and to engage with current students. “I wanted a chance to connect with other alumni and be able to help connect with current students to help show them the different paths you can take after graduating—conventional and unconventional!” she shared.
This experience has been rewarding on multiple levels. Personally, it has enabled Liz to stay connected with the university staff, students, and the broader community. Professionally, volunteering has provided her with invaluable networking opportunities, allowing her to meet and learn from individuals from diverse backgrounds and industries.
As one of the program’s most active volunteers, Liz has been instrumental in fostering relationships with alumni from across generations. She especially values the wisdom and guidance shared by more seasoned alumni, whose stories about their career journeys offer inspiration and insight as she navigates her own professional path as a relatively recent graduate. Liz’s efforts have helped strengthen the alumni network and showcased the incredible opportunities that Algoma U alumni can achieve.
