December 9th, 2019 – NORDIK Institute, Algoma University and Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig are proud to host the 8th C2UExpo (Community-College-University Exposition) May 12th-14th, 2020. The conference theme is Culture Place, and Resilience.
C2UExpo is a Canadian-led international conference designed to showcase best practices in community-campus partnerships worldwide, create a space for collaboration around key issues, and foster ideas for mobilizing community participation and action. An initiative of Community-Based Research Canada, the conference is held every two years and allows community members, universities, colleges, government, and non-profit organizations to create an innovative learning environment.
“The selection committee was very intrigued by our proposed vision for the gathering to be a space to bring together scholars, practitioners and community members whose work prioritizes community economic development, rural communities, and Indigenous cultural revitalization,” says Sean Meades, Director of NORDIK.
The theme of Culture, Place, and Resilience will showcase innovative models, findings, and best practices of community-campus research initiatives. “We are excited about the focus of this theme for connecting community-based research and education to cultural shifts, Indigenous cultural and philosophical revitalization, social innovation, and systems change,” says Joanna Ochocka, Board Co-Chair of Community Based Research Canada.
A diverse range of activities and sessions for exploring the theme will be planned around the city of Sault Ste. Marie/Baawating, with particular emphasis on creative workshops, panel discussions, round tables, and culture-based events. Event updates will be posted on the conference website, which is now live. Current updates include the Call for Proposals. Opportunities also exist for organizations and individuals who want to exercise their leadership and advance social good through our conference sponsorship package.
