Using Generative AI Responsibly at Algoma University
With the rapid rise of tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, and Gemini, it’s more important than ever for students to understand when and how these technologies can be used in academic work.
To help you navigate this, Algoma University has developed the Guidelines for the Responsible Use of Generative AI by Students, approved by Senate on May 2, 2025. These guidelines explain:
- When the use of Generative AI is allowed—and when it isn’t
- How AI use relates to academic integrity
- What counts as ethical and responsible use of AI in your learning
- How to protect your privacy when using AI tools
- Best practices for completing your coursework responsibly, including tips on how to protect your work, demonstrate authorship, and avoid unintentional academic integrity violations when using AI tools
Whether you’ve used AI before or are just getting started, it’s essential to understand how to use these tools responsibly at university.
