Melissa brings a wide range of experience in the field of education to the Center for Teaching and Learning. Melissa is excited to share her knowledge in designing and developing online learning experiences. In the Online Learning Instructional Designer role, Melissa supports and guides subject matter experts in applying eLearning best practices, learning theory, pedagogy, and accessibility through the development process. Melissa holds several undergraduate degrees from Lake Superior State University, Algoma University, and Nipissing University. She is certified by the Ontario College of Teachers and recently completed a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Design from Athabasca University. She is also pursuing an MEd in Open, Digital and Distance Education.

David is the Copyright Specialist here at Algoma University and is available to help with all related questions or concerns. If you are designing a course and want to know the best way to make materials available to your students, or you’re concerned about protecting your own work, or you’re organizing a multimedia event on campus (or anything in between), please don’t hesitate to write to him with your questions. Roma is the LMS Support Agent at Algoma University. She is dedicated to helping instructors and students with their LMS-related queries. She has a Master’s in Computer Science and a Certificate in Adult Education. She has robust experience in diligently serving the academic sector and taking on different roles, including handling LMS, training faculty/ staff, and developing practical courses and training material. Jesse brings extensive international and domestic experience to the Centre for Teaching and Learning team.  As an eLearning Specialist Jesse’s role is to support faculty in the use of eLearning tools to support effective instruction both in fully online and blended learning contexts.This includes setting up courses on Moodle and Brightspace prior to the start of the semester as well as providing LMS support to faculty throughout the semester. Jesse also provides training to faculty on how to best leverage the available eLearning tools to enhance the student learning experience and provides one-on-one support to faculty regarding course design and delivery on Moodle and Brightspace. Prior to joining Algoma University Jesse spent 15 years teaching English overseas, which culminated in the role of Curriculum Supervisor for a large English for Academic Purposes program at a public university in the United Arab Emirates. More recently he worked as an instructional designer for several organizations in Nova Scotia. Jesse holds a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies, a Master of Education with a specialization in TESL as well as a Graduate Diploma in Instructional Design.

Julia is the Educational Developer within the Centre for Teaching and Learning. She focuses on fostering a community of practice where Teaching (as art, science, and research area) can be explored and developed. She has spent much of her career in language teaching, and one of the great privileges of her life has been teaching (and learning from) her students. Julia holds a BA in English Literature, a BEd, and a MA in Applied Linguistics.
