Algoma University Celebrates 29th Annual Student Awards

Record-breaking total of $11,277,986 awarded to deserving students

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON- March 3, 2023) Last night, the Algoma University community celebrated the academic achievements of its students and the generous contributions of the many supporters of the University’s scholarship and bursary program through a special event.

The Annual Algoma University Student Awards highlighted the appreciation of this year’s award winners and the individuals and organizations that made them a reality. A record-breaking total of $11,177,986 issued so far for 2022-23 was distributed this year, including entrance and renewable scholarships, as well as entrance and in-course bursaries.

“I am very proud of all of our Algoma students,” shared the Vice-President Academic and Research Dr. Michele Piercey-Normore, “but those who are being recognized this year have had an exceptional year and very much deserve these awards and congratulations. It is so important to take this time to recognize the significance of our students’ many accomplishments. We are honoured to be able to bring together students and donors in this important event.”

The annual student awards acknowledge the academic accomplishments of both new and returning Algoma University students. The event highlights the importance of these financial awards and continued community support while providing an opportunity for both the university and the award recipients to express their gratitude to the donors who make these generous awards possible.

“I would like to thank the donors who have presented me with the Rose Nolan Memorial Scholarship. It means a lot to have been selected to receive this award and I really appreciate the ongoing support I have received while completing my Bachelor’s degree at Algoma University. As a student, finding the money necessary to pay for my education can often feel overwhelming and receiving this award helped to alleviate a lot of the financial stress I feel during the school year. With the support of this award, I will be able to devote a greater amount of time and energy to my studies this school year, says  Desiree Boulter.

A complete list of 2022-2023 student award winners is shared in the program linked here

Congratulations to all!
