Record-Setting $20 million for student awards for 2024-25 Academic Year
(BRAMPTON, ON – March 5, 2025): Last night, Algoma University proudly hosted its inaugural Brampton Student Awards Ceremony at the Dreams Convention Centre — a meaningful milestone in the University’s ongoing commitment to celebrating student achievement across all campus communities. In a year defined by extraordinary generosity, nearly $20 million in awards has been allocated for the 2024/25 academic year, including 100 awards specifically supporting students in Brampton.
The event brought together students, donors, faculty, staff, and community members to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of Algoma U students and the collective efforts that support their success. The theme, “Building a Community of Support,” reflected the incredible power of education when combined with meaningful partnerships and unwavering encouragement.
“This inaugural celebration is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we work together,” said Dr. Donna Rogers, Interim President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University. “Our community inspires, donates, teaches, and encourages every step of the way. With an almost $2 million increase from the previous year in awards, it’s inspiring to witness the remarkable generosity of our community – empowering students to shine bright and pursue their dreams.”
The evening was filled with inspiring stories of perseverance and success, heartfelt gratitude from award recipients, and moments of reflection on the positive impact of community support. Throughout the program, themes of empowerment, transformation, inspiration, generosity, and mentorship were woven into the dialogue, underscoring the collective commitment to helping students achieve their goals.
Algoma University extends its deepest gratitude to the donors, supporters, and community members whose contributions make these achievements possible. Together, we continue building a brighter, more empowered future here in Brampton and beyond.
