Algoma University Convocation Honours Brampton Campus Class of 2023

(BRAMPTON, ON- June 20, 2023): Algoma University celebrated the academic achievements of graduating students from its growing Brampton campus during annual Spring Convocation ceremonies held at the Embassy Grand Convention Centre. Mario Turco, Chancellor of the University, conferred degrees and certificates on the Brampton campus’s largest graduating class to date.

Piper Elizabeth Sheridan began the procession beautifully, welcoming all those in attendance as the platform party and grads made their way into the convocation hall. Ozawa Ginew opened the celebration in ceremony, with Gabrielle Turgeon performing an exceptional rendition of the national anthem. Kanishika Nijhawan shared an inspiring expression of thanks to all present on behalf of the class of 2023, with the celebration concluding with an energetic traditional Indian drumming performance by Vivek Kumar and Pratham Sadana.

In her commencement address, President and Vice-Chancellor Asima Vezina reinforced the special and unique qualities Algoma University graduates possess as they enter the next stage of their lives. “As future leaders and change-makers, you carry with you a deeper understanding of equity and diversity and the need to be inclusive and respectful of all voices in our community.  As graduates of Algoma, you understand the need for social justice and socially responsible change; the need to consider multi-world views and perspectives in decision-making – wherever life and career take you. On behalf of the entire Algoma University family, we are thrilled to be celebrating the Brampton class of 2023!”

Algoma University’s growing campus in the heart of downtown Brampton offers programming in the areas of business and economics, project management, computer science, community economic and social development, and psychology.  Algoma’s student body in Brampton has grown to over 3,500 FTE, including an ever-increasing number of students from the Peel Region. As the University continues to grow, it has considerably expanded its campus footprint. New state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and student support facilities provide a high-quality learning environment for all students.
