Algoma University Launches Inaugural Research Week

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON- February 26, 2021): Algoma University’s inaugural Research Week kicks off Monday, March 1, 2021, and runs through March 5, 2021. This first instalment will feature live keynote speakers, faculty lunchbox talks, alumni research profiles, student-centred research highlights and more!

Each session offers a unique opportunity to learn about research at Algoma U and a chance to ask live questions of our knowledgeable faculty. Keynotes will be hour-long sessions running from 12 PM- 1 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday and Thursday will be dedicated to faculty lunchbox talks, short fifteen minute Q & A sessions, featuring topics in computer science, health, environment and social sciences.

Dr. Donna Rogers, Vice President Academic and Research, welcomed this initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Nirosha Murugan of the Department of Biology. Rogers noted, “I’m extremely proud of the calibre and breadth of research happening at Algoma University–a wide range that includes lab sciences, community-engaged research, Indigenous-led research projects, computer science and technology, the arts and humanities, and more. Algoma faculty, students, staff and administration conduct and disseminate research that advances knowledge and contributes to our communities and to society globally.”

To kick off Research Week, a special website that will host student and alumni profiles will be launched in conjunction with a social media campaign early Monday, March 1, 2021. Dr. Lucas Castellani is the first keynote speaker, sharing insights from his experience working at the Sault Area Hospital, in the field of infectious diseases and his research with NOSM.
