John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner tickets sell out one month ahead of event
Algoma University is delighted to announce that Orlando M. Rosa will be the 2024 Honouree at the annual John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner and Art Auction on October 24, 2024. Orlando is being recognized for his exemplary leadership, dedication to education, and unwavering commitment to the Sault Ste. Marie community.
This year’s highly anticipated event has already sold out, with over a month to go, underscoring the community’s strong support for local students and the profile of this year’s honouree.
“I am truly humbled and grateful that Algoma University named me the honouree of the John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner,” said Orlando Rosa. “Throughout my years of practice, I and Wishart Law Firm have been very supportive of Algoma University. As someone with deep ties to Algoma University and a deep appreciation for its significance within our community, I am truly honoured to be selected by Algoma University for this opportunity.”
As Counsel to Wishart Law Firm, Orlando’s legal career spans over 41 years, with notable achievements including serving as Managing Partner and appearing as lead counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also been recently appointed as a Commissioner of the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission (ONTC).
Orlando’s dedication to the community is evident through his involvement with organizations such as Sault College and the G. Marconi Society. In recognition of his leadership and service, he has received numerous accolades, including the Harry Hamilton Award for Professional Excellence and Community Service. His contributions have had a lasting impact, making him an admirable recipient of this prestigious honour.

The John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner and Art Auction will be held at The Machine Shop. The evening will also feature an art auction led by Algoma University’s Visual Arts Department’s Professor Andrea Pinheiro. Artworks by a wide range of local artists, current students, and alumni will be available in this unique showcase of talent. Proceeds from the auction will go directly to supporting the Visual Arts Department.
