Algoma University’s Faculty of Business and Economics took part in Leader Generation, a newly launched branded content online series presented by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions. The series, which premiered this month, highlights how 18 global business schools are shaping the next generation of leaders through innovative, inclusive, and transformative education.
Algoma University’s film spotlights the Learners Early Access Program (LEAP)—a groundbreaking initiative designed to bridge the gap between secondary and post-secondary education. Launched in September 2023 in partnership with the Peel District School Board (PDSB) and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (DPCDSB), LEAP provides Grade 11 and 12 students with an opportunity to earn Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and university credits, career-oriented micro-credentials, and hands-on learning experiences. By addressing barriers historically underrepresented groups face in higher education, LEAP reflects Algoma University’s commitment to equity, access, and student success.
“We are incredibly proud to see Algoma University featured in Leader Generation,” said Dr. Asima Vezina, President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University. “This global series highlights our shared goal of inspiring and equipping the next generation of leaders. Programs such as LEAP demonstrate our unwavering commitment to providing innovative, accessible, and transformative learning experiences that empower young learners to thrive in an evolving world.”
Leader Generation showcases institutions at the forefront of responsible leadership education, preparing students to address pressing social, economic, and environmental challenges. By offering programs like LEAP, Algoma University fosters future leaders who are ready to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.
“In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, success is driven by adaptability, innovation, and a deep understanding of global challenges and preparing for local responsiveness,” said Dr. William Wei, Dean, Faculty of Business and Economics at Algoma University. “The Leader Generation series highlights how institutions like Algoma University are preparing students not just to participate in the economy but to shape it. Through LEAP, we are fostering future business leaders who are ready to navigate complexity, drive sustainable growth, and create lasting impact in their industries and communities.”
The Leader Generation series is now available on a bespoke website, bbc.com, hosted by BBC Storyworks Commercial Productions. Algoma University invites its community, partners, and prospective students to explore its features and learn more about the University’s commitment to transformative education.
