(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON- April 11, 2023): Algoma University is pleased to announce that Borden Bell is the recipient of the 2022 Co-op Student of the Year award. Bell is a 3rd-year student in the Bachelor of Business Administration program and is currently finishing his 3rd Co-op work term placement at Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

The Co-op Student of the Year award is presented to an Algoma University student who has demonstrated exceptional work ethic, dedication, and achievement during their cooperative education placement.

“Borden has proven to be a knowledgeable, reliable, and flexible member of the Digital Business Analysis team,” said Ross O’Neill, OLG’s Senior Manager of Digital Business Analysis. “His personable attitude and eagerness to learn OLG’s business have made him someone that is relied upon both inside and outside of our team.”

During his co-op work terms at OLG as part of the Digital Business Analysis team, Bell has supported the gathering of business requirements for new products and initiatives on both web and mobile platforms. He was also involved in product testing by ensuring that acceptance criteria is understood and that test scenarios are built accordingly. Bell also worked with other teams at OLG to support user acceptance testing and defect remediation.

“I chose to do co-op as it seemed like a good opportunity to get real-world work experience while I was still in school,’ shared Bell. “My co-op work terms at OLG have allowed me to apply what I have learned in the classroom in a professional setting and has given me new perspectives on best management and organizational practices that I can bring back to the classroom.”

“March was National Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) month,” shared Cindi Elgie, Coordinator of Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning at Algoma University “Borden and OLG represent the best of what a Co-op placement can be when you match a great student with a great employer. This is what we strive for with all of our Co-op students at Algoma U.”
