The Algoma University Alumni Achievement Award acknowledges the professional, civic, and personal accomplishments of Algoma University alumni who graduated within the last ten years. The 2025 Alumni Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Hannah Caicco (BA English / History ‘19) at this year’s Spring Convocation Ceremony in Sault Ste. Marie.
Dr. Caicco is an educator, researcher, and advocate whose work centres on Indigenous knowledge systems, youth empowerment, and inclusive learning. She holds a Master of Education in Indigenous Education from Queen’s University and recently completed her Doctor of Education at Western University, with a focus on Indigenous Language Revitalization and Traditional Land Agreements.
During her time at Algoma University, Dr. Caicco’s undergraduate research offered a gender-based analysis of Residential Schools. Since then, she has continued to lead meaningful educational projects through her work with Garden River First Nation, Digital Creator North, the Missanabie Cree Business Corporation, and as a post-secondary instructor.
Dr. Caicco’s dedication to reconciliation and her efforts to build inclusive, community-rooted learning spaces exemplify the values and mission of Algoma University. She would like to dedicate this award to her late father, Mario Caicco.
Congratulations, Dr. Caicco, on this well-deserved recognition.
