When Emily Faubert was just 17 years old, she ventured abroad alone to Scotland to visit a family friend. In high school at the time, Faubert’s time abroad in the highlands left a lasting impression and a yearning to study abroad herself.
Today, dubbed the United Nation’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Algoma University will be hosting three events to celebrate the University’s diversity while also building a more inclusive and just community.
The Anishinaabe People’s Council of Algoma University will be hosting a private screening of critically-acclaimed movie Indian Horse at the Galaxy Cinemas, prior to the national release of the film in April. The private screening is slated for March 31st at 9:30am.
The WUSC Local Committee of Algoma University will be shining a light on women’s education in the developing world on March 24th in a Shine a Light dinner fundraiser, from 6:30pm – 10:00pm in the Doc Brown Lounge.
When I started working at Algoma University’s Shingwauk Residential Schools Centre (SRSC), I was excited for a new opportunity. I was thrilled to be working in a community-based archive and loved the idea of getting to spend every day immersed in history.
I did it, I made it through a whole month of being in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. The days pass by at what it seems to be a slow pace, but then when I look back, it has indeed been a whole month!

I’m very involved in the Algoma community – which happened more by accident than on purpose.
Algoma U is hosting an Information Night on March 13 at 7:00pm in room CC400 of the Essar Convergence Centre, for those interested in the accelerated degree program.
Algoma U will be hosting its annual March Break Open House for high school and college students on March 13th starting at 9:15am. Participants will have a chance to win free first-year tuition.
