Appealing a Notice of Offence
If you believe the Notice of Offence is inaccurate, you may appeal.If you believe that a Notice of Offence was issued in error, you have the right to submit a formal appeal.
Conditions for Appeal
You may appeal a Notice of Offence only if all of the following conditions are met:
- The appeal is submitted within five (5) business days of receiving the Notice.
- The Notice of Offence was issued by a Faculty Dean.
- You can clearly demonstrate that the details of the Notice are inaccurate.
Please note:
- Appeals submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
- Appeals cannot be approved on compassionate or personal grounds, as outlined in Section 9.1 of the Disciplinary Regulations on Academic Integrity.
The appeals process is designed specifically for students who believe they were falsely accused of an academic integrity violation. If you acknowledge the violation but would like support in understanding the policy or avoiding future violations, please consider contacting a Student Success Advisor or the Academic Integrity Officer for guidance.

How to File a Formal Appeal
To submit an appeal, complete the following steps:
Your letter must be clear, objective, and respectful. Focus specifically on the allegations outlined in the Notice of Offence, and explain why you believe the notice was issued in error.
Review the “Description of Academic Integrity Violation(s)” in the Notice and any related documents from the Faculty Dean.
In your letter:
- Point out any factual errors or explain aspects of your work that may have been misunderstood, using evidence to support your explanation.
- Avoid emotional or accusatory language; be concise, professional, and well-organized.
Submit any relevant evidence that supports your claim, such as:
- Drafts, research notes, or outlines
- Email or message exchanges with your professor
- Technical records or assignment metadata
- Screenshots or timestamps (if applicable)
Your explanation should clearly describe how the evidence disproves the allegation.
Use the official Academic Integrity Violation Appeal Submission Form to upload your letter and supporting documents.
The Senate Academic Appeals and Standards Committee will review your submission and make a decision based solely on the documents you provide. Additional information will not be requested, so ensure your submission is complete.
