Algoma University’s BRIDGE Lab Hosts Second Annual Research Symposium: ‘Algoma Today, a Flourishing Tomorrow’

Algoma University’s BRIDGE Lab recently hosted its second annual Research Symposium, themed ‘Algoma Today, a Flourishing Tomorrow’. Held at the Convergence Centre on the Sault campus, the event brought together students, faculty, and alumni to showcase research on innovation, sustainability, and the region’s future.

The symposium featured a keynote presentation on new sustainability initiatives, followed by a student panel, faculty research talks, and poster presentations. Alumni were also invited to present research posters on various topics, with a preference for those aligning with the event’s theme.

This year’s symposium fostered vibrant discussion, interdisciplinary collaboration, and impactful knowledge sharing—further solidifying BRIDGE Lab’s role as a central hub for research and academic exchange at Algoma University. The event brought together both emerging and established scholars, providing a platform for meaningful dialogue and the exploration of innovative solutions toward a more sustainable and prosperous future.

In addition to its academic initiatives, BRIDGE Lab has also partnered with the Kiwanis Club to establish a Circle K chapter on campus. This new partnership connects Algoma students with university peers across the country through meaningful service opportunities while cultivating leadership, community engagement, and responsible citizenship.

“Student engagement is a beautiful thing—especially when we dive in together,” shared Dr. Jody Rebek, Associate Professor at Algoma U. “I’m so grateful to everyone who helped co-create something meaningful, worthwhile, and transformational for students and our community. From our planning team and panelists to our emcees, volunteers, and participants—thank you for bringing your energy, ideas, and heart to this experience.”
