Pancake Breakfast Funds Social Innovation and Community Impact
Algoma University’s Community Economic and Social Development (CESD) is hosting Pancakes & Pitches, a pancake breakfast and Social Enterprise Pitch Competition, on March 25, 2026, at the University’s SpeakEasy.
A social enterprise is any form of organization whose central purpose is to create a positive social, environmental, or cultural impact in its community. To enter the Social Enterprise Pitch Competition, register here. The deadline to register a pitch is March 23, 2026. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges representing local entrepreneurial services across the city, with a special prize by audience vote.
The event will bring together students, aspiring entrepreneurs, and community members to support local social innovation. Attendees will enjoy a pancake breakfast while social entrepreneurs present their ideas. All participants, including pitchers, will be charged a $10 admission fee.
“We want to increase awareness about the difference that social enterprise can make in our community and celebrate all the people looking for a way to impact change,” said student organizer D’lyla Trudeau. “A social enterprise is any form of organization whose central purpose is to create positive social, environmental or cultural change in its community. We really look forward to hearing the ideas that come from the community! This event is a perfect way to get your idea out there as an entrepreneur and to enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast.”
