The Next Generation of Changemakers: Rotaract Club Induction at Algoma University in Brampton

Last week, the Algoma University community gathered at the Student Centre in Brampton for the much-anticipated Rotaract Club Induction Ceremony, which celebrated leadership, service, and student engagement. Faculty, students, and community members attended the event, marking a significant milestone for the club and its newest members.

Thirty-two students were officially inducted into the Rotaract Club, with additional sign-ups made during the event. New members received certificates recognizing their commitment to the Rotaract community, which underscored their dedication to making a meaningful impact locally and globally.

“The partnership between Algoma University and the Rotary Club of Brampton reflects a shared commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement,” said Dr. Asima Vezina, President and Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University. “As Algoma expands in Brampton, collaborations like this create meaningful opportunities for students to grow as leaders and make a lasting impact. Through Rotaract, they join a global network dedicated to mentorship and service, reinforcing our collective vision of a future shaped by collaboration, integrity, and giving back.”

A special highlight of the ceremony was Suzanne Cook, the current Vice-President and incoming President of the Rotary Club of Brampton, and Pallavi Sathiskumar, Senior Development Officer at Algoma University, presenting a gavel and bell to the Algoma University Students’ Union. This symbolic gesture, made on behalf of the Rotary Club of Brampton, reaffirmed the two groups’ ongoing partnership and collective mission to inspire positive change.

“Young people are the future, and I am excited to see the Rotaractors learn, grow, develop and care so much about their local community,” said Dr. Suzanne Cook, co-advisor of the Rotaract Club, the Committee Chair for Youth/Interact/RYLA initiatives and Vice President of the Rotary Club of Brampton. “Their community involvement is vital, and they are becoming part of our civil society. Congratulations to the Rotaract Club of Algoma University Students’ Union. This is an exciting opportunity, and the Rotary Club of Brampton is thrilled to welcome the Rotaractors. Chartering with thirty-two new members is an achievement.”To view photos from the event, click here.
