The annual scholarship dinner to raise funds for the most prestigious scholarship at Algoma University, The John Rhodes Scholarship.
The John R. Rhodes Scholarship was established in 1979 through generous donations from friends and family of the late John Rhodes.
This is the most prestigious scholarship offered at Algoma University and is awarded to a high school graduate who embodies the integrity, leadership, and commitment to community service demonstrated by Rhodes throughout his life as a broadcaster, community member, and politician. Funds from the Algoma University John R. Rhodes Scholarship Dinner add to an endowment to keep this award living in John R. Rhodes’ memory forever.
2025 Honouree – Jeff Elgie
This year, we honour Jeff Elgie, an incredibly successful local entrepreneur that has taken the formula for local-focused online news and launched it across the globe. Jeff has grown Village Media to impact so many communities on a local level, delivering not only a reliable, relevant news source, but allowing this platform to help positively impact each community it operates in. All of this, while keeping the Village Media headquarters right here in Sault Ste. Marie.
