Algoma University Alumni Council Welcomes New Chair

The Department of Strategic Advancement & Alumni Affairs and the Algoma University Alumni Council is happy to announce that Tee Komsa (BA English ‘16) is the new Alumni Council Chair, taking over for Adam Carpenter (BBA Accounting ‘07) whose set term has expired.

Joining the Alumni Council in 2013, Adam has served as member, Chair, and Past Chair. He has served on several subcommittees, including the Thunderbird Wall of Fame Committee, Alumni Awards Committee, and the Homecoming Planning Committee. He has also been heavily involved in the Algoma U Classic Golf Tournament Planning Committee, helping to raise considerable funds for student scholarships.

During his time as a student at Algoma University, Adam was part of the Algoma U Thunderbirds Men’s Basketball team, receiving OCAA All Academic honours in all four years of study. Adam was also named Athlete of the Year in his third year on the team.

Outside of the Alumni Council, Adam has continued to make Algoma University proud due to his long standing success in Sault Ste. Marie as the Controller/Owner of R.F. Contracting.

Adam shares, “It is now time for me to pass along the “torch” and I am excited to pass the position of Chair on to Tee. I have been impressed with Tee since I first met her on council and know that she will be successful in this next chapter. Tee is bright, ambitious, and has the connections to continue to bring the council forward. I look forward to seeing where she leads. Thank you again for my time on the Council. I have met and worked with many talented people over these past 14 years and although I will not be around on Council, you will still see me active at University events and fundraising at the golf tournament. The future will be bright!”

We thank Adam for his ongoing commitment to the Council.

Tee’s passion for Algoma University started during Frosh Week when she stepped on campus in the fall of 2011. During her time at Algoma U, Tee went on to be a Frosh team leader in her second and third years and in her fourth year she was Editor-in-Chief of The Sentient, Algoma U’s monthly newspaper. While studying, she was the recipient of the U.S.W. Local 2251 Marie Kelly, Jeff McLeod and Doug Oithuis Scholarship during her first and second years, as well as the Alexander M. Ross Bursary Award in her third and fourth years. Outside of her studies, Tee was professionally dancing for a performance company based in Los Angeles, California, which led to her training 6 days a week and traveling back and forth for performance opportunities.

Known for her organizational skills, keen sense of detail and outgoing personality, Tee’s career has given her experience in the areas of marketing, sales, and operations. She currently works for Vivo Team, a learning and development company, as their Manager of Client Experience and Product Delivery. She also runs her own business, The Letter Tee, where she provides virtual operations support to entrepreneurs and small businesses who need assistance with their backend operations, social media, and marketing efforts.

When asked about her upcoming term as Chair, Tee shared, “I’m very excited and grateful for the opportunity to sit as the Council Chair to give back to the university that has given me so much. I look forward to collaborating with Council members to push forward the strategic initiatives of the Council, engage Alumni, and celebrate the unique community that is Algoma University!”

Tee originally hails from Sault Ste. Marie and currently lives in Toronto. As a former professional dancer, Tee is passionate about being active, spending time with her loved ones, and enjoys long walks with her mini Aussie named Flash.
