(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – July 19, 2016): There are more reasons than ever to get a degree from Algoma University. Recent data published in the 2013 Ontario University Graduate Employment Survey, conducted by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, shows that over 88 per cent of graduates from Algoma University find employment six months after graduation, higher than the provincial average of 86 per cent.

“We are very pleased with the results of the 2013 Ontario University Graduate Employment Survey,” said Dr. Craig Chamberlin, President and Vice Chancellor of Algoma U. “These results demonstrate that our graduates are well prepared to enter the workforce and find meaningful careers within their chosen fields of study. We work hard to ensure that each of our students get the knowledge, theory, and hands-on experience needed to be successful upon graduation.”

47 per cent of the Algoma grads surveyed were found to be working in education, law, social, community, and government services. Another 27.3 per cent were employed in business, finance, and administrative occupations. Others were employed in sales, natural and applied sciences, management, arts and recreation, trades, and manufacturing.

Of those surveyed, 81 per cent were employed in full-time careers (considered over 30 hours of work), with 65 per cent in permanent jobs. 42 per cent cited their starting salaries ranging from $20,000 – $40,000 a year. Within two years of graduation, 73 per cent of students were earning $20,000 – $60,000 annually.

The Council of Ontario Universities’ (COU) 2015 Employment Report cites that university graduates continue to experience the highest employment growth of any students over the last 10 years. Three years after graduation, the average bachelor degree holder earns 33 per cent more than the average college graduate.

Those surveyed were from the Class of 2013.
