First Nations’ Seven Grandfathers teachings are at the core of these two contemporary dance works. In the first, new learning takes place by hearing the wisdom of ancient knowledge, giving hope to an environment in need. In the second, a dark enemy within is vanquished by grounding the spirit, changing the world both within and without. The result is an energy-charged meeting of hoop dancing, ballet, contemporary dance and hiphop. This performance is presented in partnership with Algoma University.
The Chimera Project, led by award-winning choreographer and Artistic Director Malgorzata Nowacka has toured throughout Canada, and abroad, and is proud to present these two works conceived by Donna Hilsinger, guided by elder Shirley Horn, and Artistic Advisor Arik Pipestem, and choreographed by Malgorzata Nowacka. Following the 50 minute performance Malgorzata, elder Shirley Horn and the dancers will engage in a discussion with the audience about these works.
