Big Canoe Experience – 2.5 hour Guided Tour of the St. Mary’s River

Algoma University, Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig and the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Student Association, in partnership with Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy, are excited to offer New and Returning FNMI students an opportunity to join us for a 2.5 hour interpretive guided tour of the St. Mary’s River in Sault Ste. Marie, ON.

Maximum of 14 participants per tour including one AU/SKG staff person plus certified guides.

There are two excursion times available:

Group A – Morning Tour: Friday, September 23, 2022
Meet at the front steps of Algoma U at 9:00am and travel to Parks Canada dock (by the Soo Locks). Group A departs by canoe at 9:30am and the tour ends at 12noon. Travel back to Algoma University.

Group B – Afternoon Tour: Friday, September 23, 2022
Meet at the front steps of Algoma U at 12:30pm and travel to Parks Canada dock (by the Soo Locks). Group B departs by canoe at 1:00pm and the tour ends at 3:30pm. Travel back to Algoma University.

No experience is necessary to participate.

Approved participants will be notified through their Algoma University email.

Notice: In the case of heavy rain, high winds or electrical storm, the tour will be cancelled and rescheduled. This will be decided with 24 hours advance notice. Students will be notified of any cancellations via Algoma U email.
