Faculty Professional Development Workshop
Facilitated by Dr. Gavan Watson, Associate Director, eLearning, Western University
Back by popular demand! This workshop is broken into three one-hour topics – you may attend one, two, or all three. All sessions will be hands on and interactive.
1-2 p.m.
Getting better use of Moodle in the face-to-face classroom
By the end of this session, faculty will be able to:
- describe the kinds of teaching and learning activities that are suited for the online or face-to-face learning environment;
- describe what tools are available to them within the Moodle LMS; and
- use these tools to help students achieve specific outcomes.
2-3 p.m.
Engaging students: low tech to high tech
By the end of this session, faculty will be able to:
- describe what student engagement in higher education is;
- consider a series of tools and techniques that can be used to help build student engagement; and
- select a tool best suited for their instructional goals.
3-4 p.m.
Flipping & blending: course & class design for student learning
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- recognize key characteristics of flipped and blended course design;
- outline techniques that can help prepare students for success;
- consider how a course concept you currently instruct could be redesigned using a blended or flipped model; and
- provide feedback to colleagues about proposed changes to their course design.
