Algoma Reads Welcomes C. L. Polk Virtually to Algoma University and Explores Witches with Professor Warren Johnston

(SAULT STE. MARIE, ON- OCTOBER 29, 2021): If you are looking for the perfect way to celebrate Halloween this year, the Algoma Reads event this Tuesday, November 2nd is for you! We will be reading C. L. Polk’s historical fantasy, The Midnight Bargain.

The Midnight Bargain is set in a fantasy world that has much in common with the Regency period. It is the Bargaining Season and Beatrice Clayborn should be negotiating the most advantageous marriage she can to help her family’s fortunes. As a secret practitioner of magic, however, Beatrice is reluctant to marry and don the “collar” that will cut her off from her magical powers.

At 4:00 PM on Tuesday, November 2nd, Professor Warren Johnston will discuss the long history of women, witchcraft, and forbidden magic that has inspired C. L. Polk’s fantasy world. As the instructor of a fascinating upper-year seminar at Algoma University entitled “Witches and Witch-hunts in Europe, 1450-1750,” Professor Johnston is the perfect guest speaker to talk with us about the historical realities behind C. L. Polk’s fantasy world in which women are forbidden magic.

World Fantasy Award winner, C. L. Polk (https://clpolk.com/) will be joining us at 6:00 PM for a short interview about The Midnight Bargain. You won’t want to miss this imaginative writer in conversation with Algoma University students!

Email [email protected] to register and receive the link for this live virtual event from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome and you do not need to have read the book in advance to enjoy the conversations.
