Algoma University Board of Governors Call for Applications

The Algoma University Board of Governors is seeking individuals experienced in governance who are external to the University for positions on its Board. As a skills-based Board, we welcome applications from highly-skilled candidates who collectively will reflect the diversity of Canadian society and our students.  Additionally, we encourage candidates to apply from Algoma University’s three campus locations: Sault Ste. Marie, Brampton, and Timmins.

Algoma University is moving forward to an exciting stage in its development to build on the success of the 2016-2023 Strategic Plan and Extension, having set a strong foundation for future growth. Strategic investments have been made in the areas of student supports, academic programming, capital and human resources, technological efficiencies, and strategic partnerships at regional, national, and international levels. Further investments have been, and continue to be, made with respect to Indigenization, equity, diversity and inclusion.

The volunteer members of the Board of Governors play a valuable role in supporting Algoma University’s current and future success. Some of the core attributes for candidates include strategic leadership, stakeholder relationship building, integrity, diversity of thought and perspective, governance experience and championing higher education and the Special Mission of Algoma University. In this round of recruitment and selection, the Board is also seeking candidates with experience in innovation, expertise in mental health and addictions, or international business experience.

Algoma University has been given a very Special Mission, one that connects to its place on this historical site. It is the Special Mission of the University to be a teaching-oriented university that provides programs in liberal arts and sciences and professional programs, primarily at the undergraduate level, with a particular focus on the needs of Northern Ontario; and to cultivate cross-cultural learning between Aboriginal communities and other communities, in keeping with the history of Algoma University and its geographic site. The guidance of talented, strategic and engaged Board members is critical to Algoma’s success with reaching the goals that the Board has set for the institution in keeping with its Special Mission.

The application deadline for candidates is May 8, 2022. More information and instructions for applicants are available here: www.algomau.ca/bog/applications/
