
2022 Black History Month Main Event: Keynote Speaker Dr. David Nanang
The Keynote speaker this year is Dr. David Nanang. Dr. Nanang is currently the Associate Vice-President of Operations at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Before joining the CFIA in May 2021, he was the Regional Director General for the Central and Arctic Region of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for 2 years. Prior to that, he was the Director-General at Natural Resources Canada’s Great Lakes Forestry Centre in Sault Ste. Marie. David has held several positions of increasing responsibility within the federal government over the last 19 years.
David is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto and holds degrees in natural resources management, a master’s in forestry (Lakehead University) and a Ph.D. in forest/natural resources and environmental economics from the University of Alberta.
He is the author/co-author/co-editor of three books on forestry and natural resources; with several publications in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. David is the immediate past Chair of the Board of Governors of Algoma University and a former member of the Board of Governors of Sault College.
He will speak on the theme: Fostering Black Flourishing, Inclusive Excellence and Mutual Community Engagement.
