Hayes-Jenkinson’s Memorial Lecture
Join us for this year’s Open House on campus at Algoma University and learn from scholar and professor, Dr. Sean Carleton. Professor Carleton will present this year’s Hayes-Jenkinson Lecture and present his recent book Lessons in Legitimacy: Colonialism, Capitalism, and the Rise of State Schooling in British Columbia. The Hayes-Jenkinson Memorial Lecture series is put on every second year by the Department of English and History and aims to bring renowned Canadian authors and historians to the community.
Professor Carelton is an active voice in the media covering Truth and Reconciliation, residential school history, and Canada’s colonial past and present. He also enjoys sharing knowledge through illustration and graphic novels. As a settler, Carleton is an important voice in the ongoing conversation of reconciliation and is in line with AU’s Special Mission.
The lecture will begin at 7:00 pm on March 24th in the Doc Brown Lounge (EW205), a space dedicated to this important national conversation. Afterwards, guests are welcome to stay for a bite to eat and mingle with other students, faculty and prospective students. All are welcome!
