The Office of Research and Innovation invites all faculty and students to attend Dr. Robert Rutherdale’s lecture on Failing Fatherhoods: Cruel and Deserting Fathers in Canada, 1945-1975.

Dr. Rutherdale’s lecture will focus on baby-boom era fathers who, over their own family’s life course, failed and failed miserably to establish relationships of sustained support, either emotionally, economically, or both, for their children and spousal partners as they grew up. Based on oral history and life writing, this lecture will contrast the dominant myths of masculine crisis facing fathers with the life stories of fathers who deserted or abused their wives and children.
