Office of Research & Innovation Colloquium Series

The Office of Research and Innovation invites all faculty and students to attend Dr. Nusrate Aziz’s lecture on “Labour Migration and Interprovincial Trade in Canada: Is There a Link?”, as part of its monthly colloquium series.

Date: Friday, Feb. 1, 2019
Time: 3 pm
Location: Doc Brown Lounge (EW 205)

Over the past 35 years, on average, 29,000 Canadians moved from one province to another province every year. In addition to interprovincial migration, Canada receives more than 21,000 foreign migrants every year. Over 60,000 people each year are migrating in the Canadian economy. After the failure of the Agreement of Internal Trade 1995 and other agreements, the federal and provincial governments of Canada signed the Canadian Free Trade Agreement in 2017 to overcome the barriers in labour migration and internal trade. This lecture will focus on research that estimates the impact of interprovincial and international migration on interprovincial trade in Canada.
